Brian Guo, Ph. D., is a natural product chemist with interest and experience in the chemical and biological analysis of botanicals. He received his doctorate in Pharmacognosy from the University of Illinois at Chicago under the mentorship of Dr. Chun Tao Che, the Harry H. S. Fong Professor of Pharmacognosy. His research focused on the isolation and elucidation of novel bioactive phytochemicals from traditional medicinal plants. He was also trained in analytical chemistry techniques for natural product structure elucidation and metabolomics. Previously, he received
his B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Northwestern University, followed by working in Renal Product Development at Baxter Healthcare in Round Lake, Illinois.
Mr. Choi attained his B.S. in Oriental Pharmacy and M.S. in Natural Product Chemistry from Kyung Hee University, a top ranked university of South Korea in the natural product research field. As a nationally certified herbal pharmacist in South Korea, he has 14 years of botanical drug discovery experience in the pharmaceutical industry. He is a well-trained scientist for the chemical profiling and fingerprinting of raw herbal materials or active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) for batch-to-batch consistency. Plus, he has developed and validated analytical methods for herbal extracts combined with extraction optimization research by response surface method. As Project Head, Mr. Choi directed crafting methods to verify the activity of botanical drugs, singling out any active compounds that were responsible for positive results, and overall non-clinical and clinical study (Phase 2a). The Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare provided significant financial support for Mr. Choi’s IBD research project.
